It's more than the proverbial stumbling block: in Au it's a boulder that causes displeasure among some citizens.

Because this is in the middle of Kohlstattstraße.

Au/Hallertau

- For some time now, the Pfaffenhofener Straße/Mainburger Straße/Untere Hauptstraße intersection has been remodeled as part of the redesign of the main street.

Pfaffenhofener Strasse is currently rigorously cordoned off.

The official diversion is the Au local bypass – a, Sailer also knows, quite a difficult detour for everyone who lives in the northwestern part of Au.

There would be a shortcut - namely via Kohlstattstraße past the cemetery.

Even navigation devices point this way.

However, the municipality has now put a stop to the use of this secret path - at the request and demand of a resident - or more precisely: pushed a rock that prevents cars from driving on the road.

And that's where opinions differ.

In the Facebook group "Au id Hallertau, do bin i dahoam" the blocking has been a hotly debated topic for a few days: on the one hand, those who know that part of the way is private property, but do not understand exactly why, why the community acts as a "vicarious agent" of private interests, on the other hand, those who understand the annoyance of the residents at the increasing smuggling traffic on private roads.

When asked by FT, Mayor Sailer explained that the citizen, who owns the private road, had contacted the municipality with a request to stop surreptitious traffic.

They then set up beacons on the part of the road that is public.

But they were always cleared away.

After repeated complaints, the decision was made to

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.

After all, the owner of the road is not authorized to take traffic law measures independently.

And if this shortcut had not been prevented via a private route and if word had gotten around about this secret route, says Sailer, very many vehicle movements would soon have been registered.

He can understand the resentment of the citizens who would like to use this secret route, that they have to put up with a long detour while the work is being carried out on Pfaffenhofener Straße - "a dilemma".

But the restrictions are foreseeable in time.

The work that prevents the crossing from being used will continue until the end of the holidays.

The boulder is then removed again.
