Since the attack on writer Salman Rushdie yesterday (Friday) at the Chautauqua Institute in western New York State, the state and federal investigators entrusted with the case are still trying to decipher the motive for the brutal knife attack, the execution plans and the action of the suspect, Hadi Mater - 24 years old from New York Razi.
According to the suspicion, Mater, the son of parents of Lebanese origin, attacked the writer and stabbed him in the neck, while he was expected to deliver a lecture to hundreds of people.
Today, official charges were filed against Mater by the prosecution in the United States for attempted second-degree murder and second-degree assault.
Now, 75-year-old Rushdie is in the hospital on a ventilator after undergoing surgery that lasted hours.
He apparently lost his eye and was injured in his liver and one of his arms.
His agent informed today that his condition is "not good".
The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, said today that he was appalled by the attack on the writer, who decades ago became a symbol of freedom of expression.

The 75-year-old Rushdie provoked the wrath of the Muslim community following his book "Satan's Verses" and over the years he suffered threats on his life.
Eyewitnesses said that Mater emerged from the crowd, wearing a black mask, and attacked Rushdi and the interviewer who were on stage.
After the attack, Rushdie was taken by helicopter to one of the hospitals in the area, and hours later his agent Andrew Wiley informed him that he was breathing and suffering serious injuries to his body.

Media outlets in the United States reported that Mater rumbled sympathy for the regime in Iran, which for many years called for the assassination of Rushdie.
However, the head of the town in Lebanon from which his parents immigrated said that he did not know the political positions of the family, after being asked if they supported Hezbollah.
An official in the pro-Iranian Shiite organization said he had no further information about the attack.
