Region – As part of the European Championships, the men's road race starts on Sunday, August 14th.

The route leads through the Loisach Valley to Munich.

A sea of gossip papers, in between flags, cheers, looks.

"You can cheer on the drivers everywhere," says Alexandra Thoni, head of Murnau Tourist Information.

On August 14, the bike race starts at 10.15 a.m. in Murnauer Obermarkt, at Café Krönner.

According to Marion Schöne, Managing Director of Olympiapark München GmbH, the start will be almost 210 kilometers ahead of the "probably 180 athletes".

From Murnau it goes via Schwaiganger to Großweil, Schlehdorf, Kochel, Walchensee, Bad Tölz, Münsing and Starnberg to Munich and there to the Odeonsplatz.

After the start of the men's road bike race, the athletes do not disappear from Murnau within seconds.

"They start neutralized," emphasizes Thoni, head of the tourist information office, at "20 to 25 km/h".

So "we'll still see them", in Großweil you will probably only perceive a "hiss" as a spectator, says Thoni.

kilometers, time, pace

Out of Murnau and shortly before Schwaiganger, the official start follows the plans at 10.39 a.m., only then it is about kilometers, time, speed.

Marcus Burghardt classified the route: The former professional cyclist and stage winner of the 2008 Tour de France believes that a "similar atmosphere to that of the Tour de France" could develop on this route.

Burghardt described the Kesselberg relatively early on, after around 15 kilometers, as the “executioner”.

A decision should not be made there yet.

The driver type in this race will probably be a sprinter, since it is a "rather flat-oriented course", says Burghardt.

There is also a supporting programme: on Saturday, August 13th, there will be the charity race "Radln mit Hand und Fuß" by the Kunterbunt association in the Kulturpark, a guided tour of the city by bike with Murnau's mayor Rolf Beuting, a concert with Kaled and a party with DJ Firebird .

public viewing

On August 14th, after the start at 10.15 a.m., the street race can be followed at the public viewing in the culture park.

There is also a tour with professional cyclists and the 11th Murnauer Cross Country Cup organized by the RSG Werdenfels.

A leisure fair on cycling is also planned.

However, the European Championships not only include cycling disciplines, but also include "nine European Championships in one place," says Olympiapark boss Schöne.

"The largest multisport event" in Munich since the 1972 Olympic Games, with 4,700 athletes.
