The government has relaxed the quarantine period for overseas arrivals to "3+4" isolation, that is, hotel quarantine for 3 days, followed by home surveillance for 4 days.
Leung Shau Kee, President of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, said in a TV program that the "3+4" arrangement is the most attractive to business visitors who have stayed in Hong Kong for a short period of time, but it is still unattractive to the exhibition industry: "They may only come to Hong Kong for 2 to 3 days. What’s the best way to stay in the hotel for 2 to 3 days? If you can’t do it, it’s even more impossible for other travelers. You ask them to visit, and you can’t go out to eat while staying in the hotel. What are you doing here?”
Enterprises move some operations to inspection-free areas in order to accommodate talents
Leung pointed out that many companies are facing brain drain. According to a survey by the General Chamber of Commerce, more than 30% of companies, regardless of their size, are also facing the problem of brain drain. Whether it’s a big business to a small business, it’s usually 6 to 25 percent, and that’s a big deal. A business has about 1 in 5 attrition, and when you think about how important that is, it’s hard to operate.”
He mentioned that there is currently no quarantine required to enter Singapore, so many companies will set up part of their operations in Singapore and other places in order to accommodate their talents.
He said that Hong Kong needs to clear customs as soon as possible in order to attract talents back and fill the gap of brain drain.
