Will Oktoberfest 2022 be cancelled?
The new infection protection law from Health Minister Lauterbach (SPD) could thwart the current plans.
Munich – Even if the current corona summer wave recedes again, the pandemic would not lose its terror, said Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) at the federal press conference on Friday, August 12, in Berlin.
One had to expect that the number of cases would rise sharply again in autumn.
In order to be prepared for this, Lauterbach explained the measures that had been prepared for this.
From October 1st, the countries could therefore introduce a mask requirement regardless of indoor incidences.
But you don't have to do this, explained Lauterbach.
But: “I think that the countries will all do that because we will be there on October 1st.
will have higher case numbers again.”

But what does the new Infection Protection Act have to do with this year's Oktoberfest?
It is clear, according to the view of the city and operators, that there is either a normal Wiesn or none at all.
Due to this year's public holiday, the Oktoberfest will be one day longer this year - so until October 3rd.
This would mean that the festival would coincide with the entry into force of the new Infection Protection Act.
In other words: A mask requirement would then no longer be ruled out.
Host spokesman Christian Schottenhamel (59) commented on the

: "There will be no masked Wiesn.
Should there be an obligation – which I do not assume will be the case – one would have to consider ending the festival early.
The Wiesn cannot be held at a distance, with compulsory testing or with a mask.”

An early termination of the Wiesn would indeed be historic.
The Bavarian Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) has already given the
picture
the all- clear: “As things stand at present, we assume that there will be no masks in the marquee.
In any case, the number of infections is currently declining significantly.” Holetschek relies on personal responsibility.
Anyone who feels even the slightest cold symptoms should refrain from visiting the Wiesn this year.
