"Bike-Park" in Weßling: Council advises in September.

Weßling

– In order to reach their most recent meeting, the municipal councilors and Mayor Michael Sturm had to walk through an alley to the Pfarrstadel.

Educated by young MTB riders and their parents who wanted to call attention to their concern "Bike Park" on Grünsinker Straße (we reported).

Sturm endorsed the facility for sports cyclists to the Starnberger Merkur.

However, with a raised index finger: "If it doesn't work, then we'll stop the project," he emphasized.

The bikers held up banners with "Where is the bike park" or "Safe, legal biking in Wessling".

A young cyclist held the words "Dear Municipal Council" into the camera.

However, he had replaced the "Rat" with a painted wheel.

The more than 20 people present wanted to set an example, because the project has been stagnating for a good 18 months.

"The young bikers are building their jumps in the woods again," said Christian Lekies.

"And that's dangerous," says the chairman of the newly founded "Rideclub" bike department at the Weßling sports club, which currently has around 20 members.

The reason for this was that the decision on a facility between the Katzenstein, the railway line, the cemetery and Grünsinker Straße was taken off the agenda in July and was probably postponed to September.

Because talks are still necessary, according to Sturm, including with residents of Katzenstein and the bikers.

A meeting had already taken place, Lekies reported.

"That was very good." Another appointment has been scheduled, according to Sturm.

Because, as reported, resistance to the sports facility was formed from among the residents.

"We don't have any other area," regretted Sturm.

All previous location ideas were discarded again.

According to Sturm, the neighboring property at the skate park on the grounds of SC Weßling would have been "ideal".

The implementation failed because the property owner did not want to lease or sell.

The gravel pit near the Aubach also failed because the area was too remote and difficult to access.

In contrast, the location currently under discussion appears to be ideal.

However, the critics feared, among other things, disturbance of the peace or exploding costs.

"I understand your concerns," said Sturm.

"But you can arrange everything." For example, you lock the ramps off, listed Sturm.

And users can only enter the bike park if someone in charge from SC Weßling unlocks it.

He doesn't expect nocturnal party orgies, after all the area isn't lit.

"The sports grounds are closed for funerals," Sturm confirmed.

He also did not see the danger of the cyclists "jumping over the heads of the cemetery visitors".

"We are keeping a distance of 30 meters to the cemetery and 55 meters to buildings."

“The bikers will build the facility with a lot of their own work.” The subsoil will not be tarred or otherwise secured.

"We get by with the 4,000 to 5,000 euros from the community," assured Lekies.

"We finance any extra costs through donations and sponsorship."

The potential 60 or so bike park users pawed at each other.

As soon as the municipal council has given the go-ahead and all the formalities have been completed, the radar drivers can scrape the bumps, banked curves, pump tracks and dirtlines out of earth and clay, over which they will fly in all possible variations from now on.

With reservations, because if the use becomes a burden for the residents, the bike park will have to be dismantled, warned Sturm.

That was done in one day.

The demonstration day in March proved that, when those involved set up the system on Friday and completely dismantled it again on Monday.
