Yesterday, 140 of the 450 employees at Eittinger Rewe went on strike.

A wage increase of 1.7 percent is not enough in view of inflation.

Eitting – The trucks were backed up on Friday morning in front of the Rewe central warehouse in Eitting.

The reason: Over 140 of the approximately 450 permanent employees went on strike.

From five o'clock in the morning to twelve o'clock at night they stopped their work.

This was particularly noticeable at the incoming goods department: "Little or nothing at all could be delivered," says Thomas Gürlebeck, leader of the Verdi services union.

"Anyone who was willing to work could hardly accept or pick anything."

Strike: 1.7 percent wage increase is not enough

The aim of the strike: “That the employers sit down seriously at the negotiating table and make us a decent offer for the wage increase in 2022.” The 1.7 percent offered is clearly too little, especially in view of the rising inflation.

On average, an employee at a logistics center like the one in Eitting earns 2,300 euros gross.

"But it is precisely in Eitting that most of the employees live in the Munich metropolitan area," says Gürlebeck.

"Every cent is needed."
