More than 2 meters long: Angler pulls giant fish out of pond - "Noticeable relief for wildlife"

Actually, Rudi Hasil from the Anglergilde Sempt Markt Schwaben had hoped for a big carp.

But then something else twitched on his hook.

Markt Schwaben - 234 centimeters long and 80 kilograms heavy: Rudi Hasil pulled this catfish from the Rainer Lauterbach pond of the Sempt Markt Schwaben anglers' guild.

Actually, he was aiming for a big carp when he sat at the pond one night last week and cast his rods.

Hasil has been a member of the anglers' guild for 20 years. At around 6 a.m. he noticed a tugging on the line.

The angler quickly became aware "that there was a big fighter hanging on the hook," writes Martin Lackermeier, chairman of the Sempt anglers' guild.

The catfish that Rudi Hasil caught from the club pond is 234 centimeters long.

The drill lasted 40 minutes (alternating line feeding and pumping to tire the fish) until the very large catfish became visible near the bank.

With the help of a fellow angler, Rudi Hasil managed to land the fish.

After the animal had been properly cared for, the catfish was measured and weighed.

"The fact that this big predator was caught brings a noticeable relief to the animal world in the Rainer-Lauterbach-Weiher," explains Lackermeier.

"A catfish of this size is a glutton that not only eats fish weighing up to two kilos, it also grabs ducks, coots and so on." The Sempt Anglers' Guild association maintains four fishing ponds in the Finsinger Moos.

According to the chairman, the Rainer-Lauterbach-Weiher is known as a catfish and carp water.

Hasil was twice as lucky with the catch, reports Lackermeier: For a catfish over 200 centimeters in length, the club gives prize money equivalent to a year's membership.
