The drought in Germany could be broken in the coming week.

Meteorologists expect rain again from Monday.

Munich – Temperatures up to 30 degrees and little chance of rain: These were the weather forecasts for the last few days and weeks in Germany.

The result was dry meadows and forest fires.

Most recently, the high pressure area "Oscar" brought temperatures of up to 35 degrees.

It's the driest summer since 1881. But meteorologists can finally give the all-clear: From Monday (15 August) rain is in sight again.

Weather in Germany: Rain again from Monday

Meteorologist Jan Schenk from the

Weather Channel

expects the first thunderstorms on Monday.

From Wednesday and Thursday, these can lead to severe weather conditions.

The thunderstorms come mainly from the west and south-west of Europe.

This means that significantly more humid air reaches Germany.

"This is a normal summer location," explains Schenk, looking ahead to the weather for the coming week.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday (August 16), especially in northern Germany.

From Wednesday, a new low-pressure area will form in Germany, which can cause rain and even storms.

So far, however, the current forecasts only indicate local rainfall.

The heavy downpour could then set in on Friday (19 August).

High temperatures and drought caused dry meadows and forest fires.

Despite showers and thunderstorms: temperatures in Germany up to 35 degrees

The German Weather Service can also give the all-clear for the drought period from Monday: the meteorologists are expecting individual showers and thunderstorms on Monday, albeit with heavy rain, hail and local storms.

In the coming week summer thunderstorms and rain showers are possible during the day or in the evening.

However, the temperatures will not decrease for the time being: on Thursday, Schenk still expects 25 degrees in the west and up to 38 degrees in the east, for example in Dresden and Berlin.

The German Weather Service is not forecasting a significant drop in temperature until Saturday (20 August).

It remains to be seen whether it will be summery again or whether autumn will knock on the door.
