The number of wolves has been increasing again for a few years.
Nevertheless, a pair of wolves in Tyrol is now free to be shot - although it has offspring.
For a long time, wolves were considered almost extinct in our country.
In some game parks they are still sporadically native, so some were very happy when it became known a few years ago that there were more wild animals again.
In Austria in particular, the population is said to be gradually increasing, but not everyone likes this.
This is not surprising since they roam around in search of food.

Wolves not only stay in the forests, but also kill animals such as cows, sheep and the like. Farmers are unhappy about this, especially when a male and female wolf pair was discovered in East Tyrol/Carinthia.
These are said to have caused devastating damage when foraging, which is why they have been released for shooting.
This has attracted many animal rights activists, including the Nature Conservation Union and the environmental protection organization WWF.

Their experts suspect that the couple has already fathered offspring and therefore has to take care of their offspring.
"The latest data from the crack investigations in East Tyrol confirm that the two wolves released for shooting are a pair with offspring," they are certain.
The state of Tyrol has now confirmed corresponding evidence.
"The parent animals have to bring in a lot of food and may also take easily available prey for this," the animal rights activists continue.
Experts want to lodge a complaint against wolf shooting
The experts refer to the latest sheep tears in Tyrol, which made headlines.
Apparently it is a wolf family with six puppies, making it the first proven pack in the Austrian Alps.
"To be shot down would mean the cruel starvation of the young wolves.
This is not compatible with either the Animal Welfare Act or the hunting ethos,” explains WWF expert Christian Pichler to the Austrian
courier.
But his objections seem to die down, the agricultural state councilor Josef Geisler (VP) wants to stick to the launch.
Animal rights activists, on the other hand, recommend using more herding dogs to protect herds of cattle and sheep from attacks.
Therefore, an examination of the decision by the state administrative court is required.
"We will lodge a complaint against the shooting," concludes expert Pichler.
