As a result of the heat and drought, many bodies of water in Bavaria currently have little water.

The situation in Nuremberg is also tense.

Nuremberg - heat wave follows heat wave.

In mid-August, temperatures climbed to over 30 degrees - with consequences.

Heat wave and drought in Bavaria: water bodies have low water levels

As a result of the persistent drought, many bodies of water currently have little water, the city of Nuremberg wrote in a press release on Friday (August 12), for example.

The Franconian metropolis is currently taking special measures: trees are being watered with water from the indoor pool.

Drought in Nuremberg: Gründlach has “in places no water at all”

The drought is now clearly noticeable in Nuremberg.

In the urban area, the Gründlach and its tributaries are currently particularly affected by the low water.

“In some parts of the city of Nuremberg, the Gründlach no longer carries any water at all.

Unfortunately, no relaxation of the low water situation is to be expected at the moment," the city continued.

Heat wave and drought: water withdrawal?

Flora and fauna are at risk of damage

"Under the current conditions, it can damage the water bodies as well as the flora and fauna if water is taken from rivers, streams and lakes, but also from wells and springs, for example for garden irrigation," warns the Dürer city in the press release .

The Environment Agency of the City of Nuremberg therefore urgently requests that water withdrawals, whether approved or not, especially from the Gründlach and its tributaries, but also from other surface waters and groundwater, be “restricted to an absolute minimum or, if possible, avoided altogether.”

In connection with the current water shortage, the environmental agency also points out “that withdrawals from water bodies by means of pumps are not subject to public use and are generally prohibited unless permission has been granted for them.” Violations could result in a fine.
