Since the Afghan Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, the future of Afghanistan remains uncertain and everyone has lost hope.

More than half a million people in Afghanistan have fled their homes and now hundreds of thousands of families are stuck, without a home or belongings, in dangerous situations somewhere across the country.

Many still try to leave altogether.

Many of them will not be able to.

Now, with the banking system in freefall, and food shortages worsening, the people are facing a devastating humanitarian crisis.

The number of those in need of humanitarian aid in 2021 has doubled by six compared to four years before.

Conditions worsened.

Over the past year, millions of lives have been affected by the strict measures leading to the removal of development support and the restrictions imposed on the country's financial systems.

Innocent men, women and children were driven from their homes, or injured and killed in armed clashes, airstrikes, IED explosions and improvised shelling.

People's houses, schools, hospitals and markets were destroyed.

Added to this is the drought crisis which is unfortunately the worst of its kind in 27 years, as a result Afghanistan now has the world's highest number of people in a food emergency.

Also, the health system is already overloaded and struggling to survive;

The shock created by the corona virus together with the sudden collapse of funding and donations had a negative impact on the health system.

Meanwhile, the change in regime and government has produced unexpected economic crises and it has caused prices to skyrocket while people's purchasing power is diminishing.

Similarly, the situation of women and girls is particularly dire as their rights and opportunities have been restricted and this includes restrictions on education, employment, travel and many others.

The combined crises had a very negative impact on the livelihood situation.

The political transition in August 2021 resulted in significant disruptions to public finances, services and international aid and had huge impacts on employment, particularly for women.

More than 500,000 members of the Afghan security forces have lost their jobs while civil servants, who make up a large part of the urban population, have been without pay for over three months.

Overall, the economic crisis that followed the political crisis adversely affected the labor market in both urban and rural areas.
