At least 28 people have died in the country's rainy season.
"Ten of the 28 victims died as a result of landslides in the indigenous region of Alta Verapaz in the north of the country," the Guatemalan Disaster Reduction Coordination Agency (CONRED) said in a report today.
The spokesman for the authority, Rodolfo Garcia, said that the administrative region most affected by the rain is Izabal, pointing out that 326 people have been evacuated from their areas.
It is noteworthy that the rainy season in Central America, which extends from May to November, leaves hundreds of victims each year, and these areas are vulnerable to climate change.
