A man has died after crashing his car into a barricade in Washington DC early Sunday morning, according to a spokesman for the US Capitol Police.
Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Richard Aaron York, adding that a Delaware driver's license was found and he is also believed to have recently lived in Pennsylvania.

The man drove his car
into a barricade of vehicles
on East Capitol Street and Second Street
around 4 am
, the spokesman said in a news release.
When he got out of the car, he was engulfed in flames.
He then began
firing into the air
and the noise prompted authorities to respond immediately, the spokesman said.
And as Capitol police closed in, he shot himself
, according to the spokesman.

“No one else was injured,” the spokesman added.
"At this time, it does not appear that the man was aiming at any member of Congress, who is in recess, and it does not appear that the officers have fired their weapons."
The accident occurred approximately 300 feet from the United States Supreme Court.

Capitol Police investigators are looking into the man's background and the DC Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the death, according to authorities.
