The chairman of the "Free Democratic Israel" party, MK Eli Avidar, is expected to resign from the Knesset this week, Israel Hayom has learned.
Avidar should have resigned from the Knesset in order to run in a new party only after it received final approval in the party registry, but he decided to advance the move.
The reason: in-depth polls revealed that the MK is still identified with Israel Beitenu, and this alienates some of the potential voters targeted by the new party. In other words, the early resignation from the Knesset was intended to differentiate Avidar from Israel Beitenu.
On top of that, from a moral point of view, Avidar is not interested in continuing to "use" the mandate of Yisrael Beitenu while establishing a new party.
Thus he also proactively prevents claims against him from Lieberman's party.

Reminder: Two weeks ago, Avidar officially announced that he was establishing a new party called "Free and Democratic Israel".
The party is aimed at a public that consists mainly of supporters of the Balfour protest, a public that is disappointed that the last government did not fight corruption as it promised and missed the opportunity to pass the law of the accused, which would prevent Netanyahu and anyone against whom there is an indictment from forming a government.
Currently, the party does not pass the blocking percentage, but Avidar promises to run to the end.
Meanwhile, a month before the closing of the lists, the center-left bloc is waiting for the decision of former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot. "Israel Hayom" has learned that after many weeks of deliberation, Eisenkot is expected to decide this week - probably by Tuesday - whether to enter politics, and if so - If he joins Lish Atid or Blue and White, with Lapid, Eisenkot is expected to get the second place, with Gantz, they reserved the third place for him - and two more places if he wants to bring in people identified with him.
According to the polls, Eisenkot's joining one of the parties does not transfer votes from Netanyahu's bloc to the opposite bloc, but will mainly strengthen Yesh Atid at the expense of Blue and White - or vice versa - depending on the party he joins.
Whereas Likud is now busy with armor.
The shields that are marked for places 14, 16 and 27 are Shikli, Gal Hirsch and Idit Silman, not necessarily in that order.
Also, Netanyahu has two more armors in places 37 and 43.
In the first 40 places chosen by Likud, there is no representation for the Druze sector or the Ethiopian community.
Sources in Likud say that in Netanyahu's circle there was a proposal to reserve Gadi Yabarkan, who was not elected in the Olim slot, in the 37th place, and alternatively to promote there the minority slot in which Ayoub Kara from the Druze sector was elected.
Sources in the party say that the decision will be made based on an examination of which of the sectors brings more votes to Likud.
