Behind the scenes of Kahana's alliance with Gantz: He demanded a commitment to receive a ministerial position and was rejected Israel today

2022-08-14T17:22:25.809Z

The demand of the veteran member of Knesset on her right is as part of his negotiations to move with her to the "Zionist spirit" • Kahane: "The state camp will also be home to thousands of members of the national religious public, those who believe that the Jewish character of the State of Israel needs to be strengthened through broad agreements"

As part of the talks between Ayelet Shaked and Matan Kahane about the possibility of Kahane running in the "Zionist spirit" together with her and Minister Yoaz Handel, Kahane demanded a commitment from Shaked that if he runs with her he will receive a ministerial position in the government that will be formed.

Shaked could not commit to Kahana for a ministerial position because it is generally customary that for every three mandates one gets a ministerial position, while Shaked is committed first of all to Handel.

In addition to this, during the talks, Kahana suggested that if a unity government is formed with Netanyahu and parties from the center, Netanyahu will be second in the rotation, but Shaked has already said in media interviews that she will vote for a unity government, but will not determine the order of its leaders.

We will recall that this morning Kahane officially announced that he is joining the union of Gantz, Sa'ar and Eisenkot and will be placed in ninth place.

Shaked will sign for Kahana to split from her party and he will not have to resign from the Knesset.

"The state camp will also be home to thousands of members of the national religious community, those who believe that the Jewish character of the State of Israel needs to be strengthened through broad consensus," Kahana wrote on his Twitter account.

Shaked wrote about his joining Gantz: "I wish the best of luck to my friends Matan Kahane in his new path and to Gadi Eisenkot on his joining politics. There is no doubt that the state-left camp is good news for all left-wing voters. We will make sure that in any government that is formed, they will not be able to advance their shared vision with Gantz for the establishment of a Palestinian state. Things have become clearer and the people of the state right have one house - the Zionist spirit."
