Chinese State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang stressed today that the New Taiwan Party has made positive contributions to promoting the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait and advancing the peaceful reunification of the motherland.
In response to a question about the New Party's 29th anniversary celebrations, Xinhua quoted Ma as saying: The New Party has adopted a clear position on promoting peaceful reunification across the Taiwan Strait since its founding, and firmly supported the one-China principle and firmly opposed Taiwan independence.
"We believe that the Party will definitely play an important role in cross-Straits relations in the coming days on the basis of adhering to the "one-China" principle, and we are ready to continue working with people of insight on the island, including the New Party, to realize national reunification," he added.
