Eisenkot's decision to join Gantz and Saar's "state camp" came after a difficult decision - whether to join Yesh Atid, which agreed to switch to a primaries system for him.

What tipped the scales was the former Chief of Staff's understanding that joining Gantz, alongside Kahane, might change the political map and bring mandates from the right

Former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot is expected to announce a run in the elections (Walla system!)

First of all congratulations.

The tedious waiting period for former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot's decision, which lasted almost two months, came to an end today. The debate between Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid and Blue and White Chairman Benny Gantz was decided, and Eisenkot decided to enter politics and strengthen his former comrade-in-arms, Gantz. Eisenkot met and talked with Lapid and Gantz dozens of times in the last few weeks, posed questions and demands to them, and examined the political paths before him. According to his associates, the main goal he had before his eyes was to strengthen the system with statehood and stability, and that the move would lead to the establishment of a ruling party.

Therefore, the political system estimated at the end of the week that, if at all, Eisenkot will join forces with Prime Minister Lapid, who jumped to 25 seats in the last poll, and not with the faltering union between Gantz and the chairman of New Hope, Gideon Sa'ar, who after a month and a half barely manages to keep the total of his original parts and is getting closer to the region Single digits of mandates. Lapid even agreed to the condition that the former Chief of Staff presented - that in the near future they will go to democracy and hold primaries in the next elections.

But it wasn't enough.

During Shabbat, Gantz's men succeeded in bringing about a change, and convinced the former Chief of Staff of what we still don't see in the numbers: that joining Lapid on the whole will move votes in the center-left bloc, while the "state camp" of Gantz, Sa'ar and Eisenkot has the potential to change the political map.

The waiting period has come to an end.

The name is different, the strategy is the same.

Gantz is trying to recreate the original essay project with which he entered politics three and a half years ago and made him a candidate for the Prime Minister within a month.

The union with Gideon Sa'ar's New Hope is intended to strengthen the right wing of the party, the connection with Eisenkot should wink at center-left Zionist voters.

Along with Eisenkot, the former minister Matan Kahane, from the right-wing refugees, will also come, who will strengthen the right-soft and religious-lite color in the list and is supposed to be a home for former supporters of Naftali Bennett.

The final goal: to strengthen the list from both ends, and to grow to the legitimate size of a ruling party, which will return Gantz to the race for prime ministerial candidates alongside Lapid and Netanyahu and turn it into a three-headed race.

Blue and White-New Hope-the state camp believe that the joining of Eisenkot and Khanna could be significant for 2-3 mandates from the soft right, the ones that Netanyahu is now wooing with demonstrations of statehood in order to obtain the 61st mandate and return to power.

The expanded and upgraded list may first of all harm the "Zionist Spirit" party of Ayelet Shaked and Yoaz Handel, which is also faltering in the area of the blocking percentage.

Shaked and Handel build on an audience of soft rightists and moderate religious people, without a single kippah wearer on the list, while Gantz now has a more respectable presence of religious lite and traditionalists: Kahana, Troper and Ze'ev Elkin.

On the other hand, the joining of Kahana, who became the great enemy of the ultra-Orthodox politicians in his tenure as Minister of Religion, will harm Gantz and Sa'ar's effort to get closer to the ultra-Orthodox and build an alternative alliance with them, on the basis of which the entire campaign was built according to which only Gantz, and not Lapid, could form a government after the elections.

Gafni: Adding Matan Kahana to Gantz's party is a serious mistake

Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Defense Minister Benny Gantz visited the Southern Command and conducted a situation assessment and tour of the command's fire center, together with Chief of Staff Lt. Eisenkot's joining can boost the lost momentum for the connection between Gantz and Sa'ar, but it does not solve one of his main challenges, but only complicates it: the traditional issues of the Palestinians and their construction in the settlements.

Eisenkot has sharp and clear positions that contrast with those of Sa'ar and Elkin.

Gantz will try to repeat the slogan "There is no right and there is no left, there is only Israel above all", but left-wing voters may be deterred by right-wing ideologues, while right-wing voters may dislike the presence of Gantz and Eisenkot, who in the end, even if they phrase it differently, support separation from the Palestinians towards two countries.

will harm the effort of Gantz and Saar to get closer to the ultra-Orthodox.

But as far as Gantz is concerned, there is another political achievement in recruiting Eisenkot, simple but significant: the fact that he did not go with Lapid.

A coalition of the former Chief of Staff Lish Atid could have fortified the Prime Minister at the top of the camp and left Gantz with half of his mandates without an engine to create momentum. Therefore, when Blue and White realized that Lapid was inclined to agree to the terms of Izenkot's internal democratization, they hurried to give gas to the courting and persuasion efforts and agreed For the same outline: immediately after the elections, all the parties in the state camp will disband in favor of a new framework that will later hold democratic primaries for the 26th Knesset. Until then, Eisenkot received four places up to the 20th place in the unified list: in addition to the third place reserved for him and the ninth place that will be given to Kahana, also The 16th and 18th places on the list will be his.

Those who pay the price of the union, as well as the price of the connection with Sa'ar, are Gantz's original team members, who were pushed back with far fewer realistic places.

At the moment, according to the polls, they have 10-12 realistic places, only half of which are occupied by Blue and White people.

Up to the 16th place, there are a total of seven places for Gantz's eight MKs in the outgoing Knesset.
