Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox are protesting this evening (Sunday) at several locations in Jerusalem and the Bnei Brak area in protest of the decision to perform an autopsy on the body of the 4-year-old who allegedly died after his uncle strangled him.

According to the police, the protesters blocked roads, threw stones and burned garbage cans, in the area of Shabbat Square, Bar Ilan Street in Jerusalem, and Nahar Jordan Street in Beit Shemesh.

So far, five of the protesters have been arrested.

The police were recorded using water cannons against the protesters.

In addition, about 300 people demonstrated against the decision in Bavni Brak, and even extended the demonstration to Highway 4, where the Jabotinsky interchange was blocked to traffic.

A few dozen protesters even briefly blocked Highway 4 in the Bar Ilan interchange area.

After the 4-year-old's death, the police performed a CT scan and blood tests at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Abu Kabir.

Later, the police arranged to perform an autopsy at the institute in order to verify the circumstances of the child's death, but his parents objected due to religious reasons and petitioned with the assistance of the legal department of the Zaka organization to the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court.

Tonight, at the end of a hearing on the matter, Magistrate Moriah Charka rejected the petition and approved to the Jerusalem police to perform the autopsy. In response, an appeal was filed to the Supreme Court and the hearing on his case will take place tomorrow morning. At the same time, the rabbis of the ultra-Orthodox community and the Jerusalem faction, with which the boy's family is identified, instructed mass demonstrations in the ultra-Orthodox cities.

The 4-year-old died this morning in the Shaare Zedek hospital, after yesterday he was allegedly strangled by his uncle, who has a background of mental problems.

A preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the boy was found lying on the floor with signs of strangulation after family members broke the door of the room he was in - which was locked.

This, after the 4-year-old did not respond to their calls and after the father of the family was called from the synagogue.

The police said that the suspected relative is charged with attempted murder and his detention was extended until August 23.
