Trump's lawyer signed an affidavit in June stating that all classified documents had been returned to the administration
According to the US report, the lawyer signed the affidavit when a senior Justice Department official arrived in Florida to arrange the handling of the documents. In June, one of the lawyers of the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed an affidavit according to which all the classified materials kept in Trump's residence were returned to the administration.
This was reported by the New York Times yesterday (Saturday).
According to the report, a senior US Justice Department official, Jay Bratt, visited Trump's beach club in June, where he met with two of his lawyers to discuss the handling of the classified documents.
At this stage the lawyer signed the document.
The meaning of the report, the New York Times said, is that if such an affidavit does exist, it is possible that Trump and his staff concealed information about the classified documents that were in his home.
The report has not been verified by other sources, and the US Department of Justice declined to respond to questions about it.

A federal investigation is underway against Donald Trump on the suspicion that he violated the Espionage Act, which prohibits the delivery of American security information to a foreign country or its sharing with people who are not authorized to receive it.
FBI agents searched Trump's residence and found 11 files of classified documents, including top secret documents.
Trump's spokesman, Taylor Budwich, criticized the FBI and issued a statement that this was an "unprecedented and unnecessary raid," which he said was "part of a witch hunt by the Democratic Party."
Budwich neither confirmed nor denied the New York Times report.
The heads of the House Intelligence Committee asked the Inspector General of Intelligence, Avril Haynes, to examine the damage caused to national security as a result of the documents being in Trump's residence.
"Trump's behavior was to seriously endanger national security. This matter requires a full investigation and continued investigation," said the heads of the committee, both representatives of the Democratic Party.
