Frank Bernlochner currently has his hands full.

After the construction of the electricity factory on the airport car park, the next major project in Nuremberg is already waiting for the sales manager of "Greenovative".

Nuremberg – In the Franconian metropolis, electricity could soon become particularly scarce due to the gas crisis.

Because almost 70 percent of Nuremberg's electricity is produced with gas.

"That's why we now have to massively focus on the expansion of solar energy in Nuremberg," said Mayor Marcus König (CSU) recently when the new power plant on the top floor of the new airport car park was commissioned.

The city's largest solar system is planned: a power plant on the roofs of Nuremberg Exhibition Centre

As soon as the gun started, König announced the next major project in the Franconian metropolis.

According to König, the Nuremberg Exhibition Center has already decided to build a new photovoltaic system.

The largest photovoltaic system in the city is planned for the flat roofs of the exhibition halls.

So far, the solar park on the roof of the Nuremberg wholesale market has been allowed to bask in the sun on the municipal top spot.

According to König, who took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board of the Nuremberg trade fair company at the beginning of 2022, the system in the exhibition halls will probably cost more than ten million euros.

The trade fair itself does not want to reveal too many details about the planned solar power project.

When presenting the balance sheet in July, the management only announced that it wanted to expand the "planning of our own regenerative power plant infrastructure on our exhibition grounds" in order to be able to push the "need to reduce our energy dependency" on Russia, for example.

The trade fair only wanted to comment more specifically on request after the turn of the year.

According to a spokesman for the trade fair, planning is currently being made more difficult by possible delivery bottlenecks.

In Nuremberg they are now working on another project to save resources.

The trees in the city are watered with water from the city's indoor pools.

Power plants are springing up like mushrooms on the roofs of Nuremberg

In the meantime, it is already clear who will benefit from the "solar boom" over the roofs of the Franconian metropolis.

The Nuremberg company "Greenovative" not only realized the new power plant on the airport car park.

"Greenovative" has also been commissioned to plan the solar park in the exhibition halls.

"Overall, the project is comparable to other projects of a similar size," says Frank Bernlochner from "Greenovative".

The Nuremberg solar company does not currently have any delivery bottlenecks.

However, the increasing scarcity of materials is also an issue here.

The company, which was founded almost ten years ago, currently employs around 50 people and has a lot of experience in the field of installing solar systems on roofs.

According to Bernlochner, it is important during planning that important aspects such as lightning protection, fire protection and statics are taken into account from the outset.

Bernlochner and his colleagues at "Greenovative" are obviously expecting many more projects in the near future.

“The roofs of the city of Nuremberg still offer a lot of potential.

In the industrial and commercial areas, many roofs are still empty,” Bernlochner is certain.

Nuremberg wants to start a solar offensive on roofs

Apparently Mayor Koenig would rather use these opportunities to expand solar energy on the roofs of the city today rather than tomorrow.

"We will now make strong progress and build more photovoltaic systems," said König when the new power plant at Nuremberg Airport was commissioned.

"Dürer-Airport is consistently moving forward with its commitment to renewable energy supply," praised König and reminded that Nuremberg wants to become climate-neutral by 2035.
