Difficult to resist in the middle of a heat wave to the scintillating reflections of the canal.

And yet, this plunge can be fatal, as evidenced by the three successive tragedies that have taken place in recent weeks.

In nearly a month, three young men died in the Canal de l'Ourcq, in the 19th arrondissement of Paris.

The latest, a 26-year-old Tunisian, drowned on Thursday August 11, between the quays of the Oise and the Charente, under the eyes of his friend, reports

Le Parisien

.

That afternoon, the young man gave in to the heat and dove into the water from the Ardennes footbridge, ignoring the bathing ban.

After swimming a few strokes, as he was about to return to the docks, the boy "

panicked

" and "

struggled

" before "

disappearing from the surface

", a few meters from the shore, explained his friend, interviewed by the daily.

The firefighters finally fished out the young man, but he was in cardiopulmonary arrest.

Why couldn't he make it to the edge?

For the moment nothing is certain and, according to

Le Parisien

, the Paris prosecutor's office has requested an autopsy to determine the causes of death.

The same tragic fate was reserved for two other boys, a few weeks earlier.

The first, aged 17, had bathed in early July, around 8 p.m., before being found, too, in cardiorespiratory arrest, reports the local daily.

The second, still not far from the Quai de la Charente, facing the Parc de La Villette, had fallen into the canal before also being in cardiorespiratory arrest.
