The spokesman for the opposition Republican People's Party of Turkey, Faik Oztrak, stressed that the AKP government is creating excuses for the problems it caused rather than finding solutions to them.
The Turkish newspaper, Zaman, quoted Oztrak as saying, in response to the statements of Turkish Finance Minister Nureddin Nabati, that “the 20-year-old government is still offering excuses, not solutions, and it is no different from that of a puppet.” The Finance Minister had claimed that there would be no deficit in the Turkish current account without energy prices.
Oztrak added, "In the annual presidential program for 2022, a current account deficit of $18.6 billion was expected for the whole year, while the deficit in the half-year amounted to $32.4 billion," noting that Recep Tayyip Erdogan's regime plunged Turkey into unprecedented inflation.
Inflation in Turkey has risen sharply to about 80 percent, and the dollar is close to recording 18 Turkish lira, as the economy has been severely affected since the decision to cut interest rates last year.
Earlier, an opinion poll conducted by the "Metropol" research institute revealed that two-thirds of Turkish voters, or 66.2 percent, lost confidence in the ability of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government to reform the economic situation in light of the crisis of high inflation and the depreciation of the Turkish lira.
