The Spanish authorities have evacuated at least 1,500 people due to the fires that broke out in the Aragon region in the north of the country.
"At least 1,500 people have been evacuated from the Zaragoza region, which includes a nature reserve, while about 300 firefighting personnel are continuing the process of putting out the fires," the region's president, Javier Lampan, told AFP, noting that the rapid expansion of the fire had damaged between 8 and 10 thousands of hectares.
According to official statistics, 388 fires since the beginning of this year have destroyed about 262,000 hectares in Spain.
It is noteworthy that Spain witnessed during the last period a record rise in temperatures not recorded in twenty years.
