The Costa Rican producer and composer Jorge Castro always dreamed of reaching FIFA, but not as a footballer but with his musical talent.

"I had written to FIFA many years ago because I wanted to participate in the World Cup song. I still have that dream and I think this is a big step," Castro told Zona Pop CNN in a phone call from San José. .

"Let's go together" is the kick-off to the governing body of world football.

How this Costa Rican got to FIFA

The perseverance of the producer, nominated for the Latin Grammy, took effect this 2022 after an approach with the organization.

"In April 2020 I made the first approach. This year I tried again. At first there was going to be no song. The pandemic has obviously complicated many things. Thank God [this time] it was achieved," he told Zona Pop CNN.

Originally the U-20 Women's World Cup would take place in 2020 and both Costa Rica and Panama would share the venue of the event.

However, the current pandemic of the new coronavirus changed the plans and, like all events worldwide, this World Cup was cancelled.

Subsequently, FIFA decided that the World Cup would take place in 2022 and that Costa Rica would be its only venue.

Castro was in charge of composing and producing "Vamos Juntos", which in addition to being the official song of the FIFA competition, its name is also the motto of the U-20 World Cup.

Although the process was quick, the Costa Rican proctor highlights the FIFA standards for his projects and neither this song nor the U-20 Women's World Cup are the exception.

"This World Cup for Costa Rica is super important. The standards are exactly the same as those of the World Cup that is going to be in Qatar and that any FIFA World Cup follows the same schemes," says Castro.

"Let's go together": a song about female union

Also participating in the song are the Costa Rican singer Rebeca Malavassi, Isabella Castro Gámez, daughter of the song's creator, the Latin Grammy-winning Peruvian artist Tony Succar, as well as the female choir of the Franz Liszt Schule school.

"I knew that the theme had to be about empowerment, inspiration for all those girls, those who play soccer and beyond. The song has a double message, between what soccer is and what life is," says Castro.

Precisely the daughter of the producer, Isabella, was the main inspiration for the message of this song.

"To be able to leave a message in a song that tomorrow and from now on she will have that message of empowerment, which is what I dream of for her," she adds.

"I hope that for her the struggles that are taking place right now help her a little to make the road easier. Obviously it is not easy in Costa Rica, it is not easy in Latin America, it is not easy anywhere for women. I think it is they are waging strong struggles that are already causing change," says Castro.
