Students of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad won two bronze medals in the 2022 World Olympiad in Informatics, organized by Indonesia “remotely” on the 10th and 12th of August, with the participation of 357 male and female students representing 89 countries from around the world.

The Excellence and Creativity Commission stated in a statement that SANA received a copy of today that the two bronze medals were won by two students, Amin Abdul Karim Sherba, from Al-Basel High School for Outstanding Students in Damascus, and Hazem Moataz Dalati from the First Outstanding High School in Homs.

The authority pointed out that the student, Amin Sherba, who was one of the participants in the programming marathon for children and adolescents, discovered his talent for informatics at an early age when he was a student in the eighth grade of basic education.

Participants in this 34th Olympiad competed through a scientific test conducted in two rounds, each lasting 5 continuous hours. Each test included 3 issues in algorithms and competitive programming.

The authority indicated that the students participated from its headquarters in Damascus in accordance with the internationally required standards and conditions, "from multiple cameras in the hall, filming and a direct link with the organizing committee of this major international competition."

The commission indicated that Syria ranked second in the Arab world in this major global competition, ahead of Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Palestine, while Egypt ranked "first" in the Arab world, ahead of Syria by one difference of a certificate of appreciation, with two bronze medals and a certificate of appreciation.
