In the renovation of Wettlkamer Straße, the municipality of Otterfing is using the milling recycling process for the first time.

Work will start shortly.

They last until October.

Otterfing

- potholes, waves, crumbling: The municipal road between Bergham and Wettlkam has been in need of renovation for decades.

For a long time, the municipality did not get any further in property negotiations, but the breakthrough was achieved last year.

And finally the excavators rolled in.

Construction work started a few days ago, slightly late.

As Mayor Michael Falkenhahn (SPD) explained on request, the road will remain closed until mid-October.

Old asphalt is reused

For the first time, the community relies on the milling recycling process, which has not been used in the district before.

The asphalt is not milled off and disposed of, but processed on site in a special machine and then laid back on the route as a base layer for the new road.

"There will be two construction phases," explains the mayor.

In the first two to three weeks the workers prepare to widen the road and build the shoulders.

The new road will be 4.75 meters wide, with shoulders the route will be 5.50 meters.

In order to facilitate oncoming traffic, two passing points are planned on the 1.66-kilometer route between Bergham and Wettlkam, which are clearly visible on the clear route.

Short construction phase in early September

If a longer period of rain does not hinder progress, a short break in construction is planned for the beginning of September.

The closure remains in place, only agricultural traffic is then free.

"Material tests are required for the milling recycling process," says Falkenhahn.

Soil and asphalt samples have to be evaluated in the laboratory, and the tests take time.

Milling is expected to start in mid-September, which will also complete the substructure of the road in the same work step.

Savings of 400,000 euros

The municipality assumes that the process will save around 400,000 euros compared to the costs of conventional road construction.

According to Falkenhahn, the current estimate is 1.1 million euros.

Government grants cover around 500,000 euros.

"We're in the frame," says Falkenhahn.

Originally, the town hall even assumed total costs of 1.2 million euros.

Relying on milling recycling was not without controversy in the municipal council.

Some councilors feared environmental pollution if the old asphalt was not properly disposed of but incorporated into the new road.

In May, however, the municipal council decided in favor of the milled recycling process by a majority against three votes.

Road will be passable again from mid-October

According to Falkenhahn, the new road should be ready and passable by mid-October.

Traffic is diverted via the district road to Steingau or via the state road in the direction of Arget.
