A 4-year-old Latino boy dies when his father collided with a car while driving a stolen scooter at full speed in New York

Mario Rosario, 24, and his son hit the sidewalk after colliding with a Toyota. The minor was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the car was charged with driving without a license.

A 4-year-old boy died this Sunday when he flew off a

scooter

that his father had allegedly stolen in New York and ended up crashing into a car, local police reported.

Mario Rosario Sr., 24, was riding the two-wheeled electric scooter with his son when they crashed into a Toyota in the Bronx, the New York City Police Department said.

"After colliding with the sedan, the

scooter

struck the curb and both individuals ended up on the ground," police said.

The 4-year-old boy, Mario Rosario Jr., was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head trauma as a result of the fall.

The minor was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Both Rosario and the driver of the Toyota remained at the scene of the accident, which occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m.

Rosario was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of stolen property, police said.

The driver of the car, William Baez, was charged with one count of aggravated driving without a license.
