Flash floods, triggered by heavy rains, have killed at least 29 people and destroyed dozens of homes in eastern Afghanistan, officials said Monday.

Heavy rains have fallen in the last 24 hours in the provinces of Parwan, Kapisa and Nangarhar.

At least 20 people were killed and more than 50 were injured in Parwan, according to Mohammad Naseeb Haqqani, spokesman for the Ministry of Disaster Management.

Five people died in Kapisa province and four in Nangarhar province, he added.

About 100 people are still missing in Parwan, added Hekmatullah Shamim, spokesman for the provincial governor.

Crops, dozens of houses and roads were destroyed

,” Mohammad Naseeb Haqqani told AFP.

Rescue teams and emergency aid have been sent to the affected areas.
