The men's road race of the European Championships also passed through the district.

The peloton raced through Bad Tölz, Geretsried and Eurasburg.

Geretsried/Eurasburg – After the professional cyclists had left Bad Tölz behind, they set course for the largest town in the district - Geretsried.

There, the street race also led through the middle of the city.

The professional cyclists raced past Neuer Platz, where the city had prepared a large supporting programme.

One hour before the peloton, coming from State Road 2369, drove through the intersection at the Waldfriedhof onto Richard-Wagner- and Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Strasse to the outskirts of Schwaigwall, Second Mayor Sonja Frank opened the program.

"We are pleased that we have found many clubs that make this festival so colourful," said the Deputy Mayor.

For example, the ADFC district association promoted the referendum on the expansion of cycle expressways and invited people to take part in guessing games.

The association "Nail and Thread" called on children to paint 500 bicycle bells provided by the city and decorated the square with colorful bicycle paraphernalia.

The district office informed about attractive tourist tours.

The Flößerstraße association and the “Spatzen Rikscha” came from Wolfratshausen to the neighboring town.

"We are pleased that we can drive visitors through the Geretsried urban area for free," said Leonie Brand.

She was out with her twin sister Sarah until late afternoon.

The musicians of the Tölz band "The Heimatdisch" informed about the current interim results of the bike race.

When drummer Florian Rein announced that two professional cyclists had broken away from the main field and would reach the Geretsried city limits a few minutes earlier than expected, a murmur set in and the group set off for the nearby Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße.

Mayor Michael Müller grabbed his dog Luigi and initially only saw the police and rescue vehicles protecting him.

To the applause of the spectators, many of whom had pulled out their mobile phones to take a picture or video, the cyclists' knot whizzed past within a few seconds.

"We spoke to the organizers and wanted to present ourselves appropriately as the largest city in the district."

"We spoke to the organizers and wanted to present ourselves appropriately as the largest city in the district," said Mayor Müller, explaining the effort.

The TV recording of the European Championships should help to make Geretsried known.

"In addition, it's always nice to have a reason to celebrate." Food stalls offering African specialities, burgers and fish, among other things, provided international flair.

In addition, "The Heimatdamisch" served rock classics in Bavarian brass music arrangements.

A mixture that was so well received by the audience that some danced and called for the polonaise.

In Eurasburg, the 267 cyclists had to climb up the Schlossberg.

The Austrian Lukas Pöstlberger and the Swiss Silvan Dillier tackled it first.

The duo was ahead of the chasing pack for more than three minutes.

Both were later cashed in and passed through in the classification.

The Swiss ended up in 73rd place, Pöstlberger only in 125th and last place.

Fabio Jakobsen from the Netherlands secured the European Championship title ahead of Arnaud Demare from France and Tim Merlier from Belgium after a good four and a half hours' driving time.
