It's been going on for weeks now, Hohenlinden's drinking water is being chlorinated to kill coliform germs.

Hohenlinden – As has been reported several times, the drinking water in the community has been contaminated with coliform bacteria for several weeks.

As the operator of the water supply, the municipal administration immediately initiated an investigation into the causes, so far without any conclusive results.

Now the affected well in the Ebersberg forest has been taken off the grid, the community is currently getting its water from the emergency network of the Mittbach group - and chlorine is being buried.

Added chlorine is calculated accurately

"A so-called vaccination station has been installed at the high water tank near Mittbach, which automatically, calculated according to liters of water per second, injects a small amount of chlorine, similar to a vaccination," explains Robert Weinhart, employee of the technical building office of the municipality.

The injected quantity must not fall below 0.1 milligrams/second, but also not a maximum value of 0.3 milligrams of chlorine.

This chlorination should now run for at least four to five weeks.

The chlorine, a disinfectant known from swimming pools, must be constantly detected in every drinking water end user in order to be able to revoke the previous boiling order.

“We take measurements on an ongoing basis, and samples are taken from the municipality’s entire pipeline network,” emphasizes Weinhart.

However, this measure does not prove to be without problems, because now during the holiday season it can happen that no water is taken from the so-called end point of a pipe, it basically stays there.

While the municipality is flushing its pipe network and the hydrants, the affected well is also being completely disinfected by a specialist company from Buch am Erlbach.

To do this, all its parts must be dismantled and cleaned.

This cleaning will also take some time, after which samples will be taken again to determine the condition of the water.

It's probably because of a well

The probability that the pollution problem of Hohenlinden's drinking water is directly related to the well seems high: after all, the water samples from the neighboring communities of Forstinning or Anzing show no negative signs, although they get their water from the same groundwater lake at a depth of 28 meters as Hohenlinden .

As far as the current chlorine additive in drinking water is concerned, Robert Weinhart can reassure the residents of the community: "It may be that our water smells a little different at the moment.

But there are no health concerns, after all, the agent used has been checked by the health department.” The municipality will continue to provide information about all subsequent steps on the homepage and hopefully will soon be able to report clean drinking water from the well again.
