An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted the Davao del Sur province in the southern Philippines this afternoon.
The Xinhua news agency quoted the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology as saying that the tremor struck at a depth of 6 km, 11 km northwest of Magsaysay town.
There were no reports of human casualties or material damage.
