China announced today the organization of new military exercises in the vicinity of Taiwan, which is currently visited by five US parliamentarians.
The Eastern Command of the Chinese army said in a statement today, carried by Agence France-Presse: "The Chinese People's Liberation Army organized on August 15 a patrol to prepare for multi-force armed battles and combat maneuvers in the sea and airspace around Taiwan."
The visit of the US parliamentary delegation came after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi angered Beijing by visiting Taiwan earlier this month, which prompted China to conduct unprecedented air and sea maneuvers that it confirmed as a necessary and legitimate measure.
