After the massive death of fish in the Oder, the state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania advises against bathing in several bathing areas in the Szczecin Lagoon.
This is a precautionary measure, said a spokeswoman for the Schwerin Ministry of Health on Monday.
Schwerin/Ueckermünde - In Brandenburg, large quantities of fish carcasses have been recovered from the Oder in recent days.
The German-Polish border river flows into the Szczecin Lagoon.
The smaller eastern part belongs to Germany.

According to government information, Polish authorities had the first indications at the end of July that there were masses of dead fish floating in the river.

Direct contact with the water should therefore be avoided.
Affected parts of the body should be cleaned thoroughly after possible contact.

According to the information, the warning applied to the bathing areas of Altwarp Dorf, Altwarpsiedlung, Bellin, Grambin, Mönkebude, Ueckermünde and Vogelsang, but also Rieth am Neuwarper See.

The Vorpommern-Greifswald district and the State Ministry for the Environment had previously recommended that fishing and fishing or the withdrawal of water be avoided.
