Police Scotland said Sunday they are investigating a report of an "online threat" made to author JK Rowling after she tweeted her condemnation of the Salman Rushdie stabbing.
The Harry Potter creator said she was "very hurt" after hearing the news and hoped the novelist "is okay."
In response, one user said "don't worry, you're next."
After sharing screenshots of the threatening tweet, Rowling said: "To everyone sending messages of support: Thank you, the police are involved (have been involved in other threats)."
"We have received a report of an online threat and officers are investigating," a Police Scotland spokeswoman said.

Rushdie, 75, was going to give a lecture on artistic freedom in western New York on Friday when a man came onstage and stabbed him.
The Indian-born writer has lived with a bounty on his head since his 1988 novel "The Satanic Verses" led Iran to urge Muslims to kill him.
After hours of surgery, Rushdie was on a ventilator and unable to speak since Friday night.
The novelist was likely to lose an eye and suffer nerve damage in his arm and liver injury.
Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey, is accused of attacking Rushdie.
He pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and assault charges at a court appearance on Saturday.
Rowling has been criticized in the past by trans activists who have accused her of transphobia.
