During his stay, Gr.P. Goldschmidt met with the Minister of Culture of Moldova and the Mayor of Chisinau, Yun Chaban. As you may remember, immediately after the start of the war, the 'Conference of Rabbis of Europe' established an international fund to aid refugees who fled the country.

As part of the fund, approximately 3 million dollars were raised, donated by the Yuri and Julia Milner family, in order to help Jewish refugees resettle in four neighboring countries, including Moldova.

The fund supports humanitarian efforts in the Jewish refugees with a place to live, education, employment, kosher food, medicine, legal medical and psychological assistance, and transportation to and from border crossings and train stations.

About 35,000 refugees have arrived in Moldova since the outbreak of the war.

Thousands of them are assisted by Rabbi Salzman of the country, who operates about 150 volunteers deployed at the 17 border points.

The conference also established aid centers in Hungary, Poland, Austria and Germany.
