Today, the Union of Journalists organized a reception on the occasion of the sixteenth Syrian Press Day at the Journalists Club in Damascus, in the presence of a number of media professionals from various media institutions and from all governorates.

President of the Union of Journalists, Musa Abdel Nour, stressed in a speech during the ceremony that the Syrian media was at the heart of the stages of the war that was waged and waged against Syria to undermine its unity and sovereignty, accompanied the army in the field and made many sacrifices and martyrs for the sake of the homeland and the survival of the work of its institutions, saluting the martyrs of the media who sacrificed with their lives to convey the truth of what is happening in Syria to world public opinion.

Abdel Nour explained that the Union of Journalists continues to work with the new blood that has fueled the Executive Office in order to remain a representative of Syrian journalists, especially at the external level, after its participation in the 31st Conference of the International Federation of Journalists in the Omani capital, Muscat, noting that what the Union has achieved through elections contributes To promote work and achieve the interest of the profession.

Abdel Nour mentioned the case of the Syrian Al-Ekhbariya TV correspondent, journalist Muhammad Al-Saghir, who was kidnapped by the SDF militia linked to the American occupation three years ago, stressing that it is the case of every Syrian journalist until his release.

Member of the Central Command of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Dr. Mahdi Dakhlallah, confirmed that the press in Syria is one of the most important foundations in building public awareness among the Syrian people, noting the importance of national media, especially with regard to community issues and its role in them.

The ceremony was opened with the Syrian Arab anthem and a minute of silence in honor of the souls of our righteous martyrs, in the presence of Minister of Information Dr. Boutros Al-Hallaq, Deputy Minister Ahmed Dawa, a number of ambassadors, heads and members of diplomatic missions accredited in Damascus, the Director of the Information Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rural Al-Halabi, and the Chairman of the Support Committee for the Palestinian People Dr. Saber Falhout.

The fifteenth of August of each year was chosen as a holiday for the Syrian press in 2006 when President Bashar al-Assad visited the Fourth General Conference of the Union of Journalists, coinciding with the victory of the resistance in southern Lebanon. This visit left a positive impression on journalists and confirmed the status of their profession.
