Scientists from Russia's Tyumen University and the Kazakh National Center for Biotechnology have discovered a new drug that can stop the multiplication of the novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19.
And the Russian RIA Novosti agency reported that, after their detailed study of the compounds of the “epoxybenzoxocinopyridine” class, scientists discovered that one of its compounds has a high ability to combat the emerging coronavirus.
According to the scientists, the effect of antiviral drugs must be able to recognize and bind to viral proteins to suppress the functions of viral enzymes.
For her part, Alina Stalinskaya, a researcher at the Russian University, said that "one of the seven compounds that we obtained showed antiviral activity, which is toxic to viral cells and can suppress the replication of (SARS-Coffi-2) when it is concentrated within the safe drug range," noting that this compound is a structural analogue of the natural compounds that it contains. Inhibits the growth of HIV-1 virus.
It is reported that the scientific team at Tyumen University intends to continue studying the new drug and prepare it for testing on living organisms.
