The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic commented on the attack and said: "No one has the right to blame the Islamic Republic" • The mother of the terrorist behind the attack: "He went to Lebanon in the past and returned from there introverted and withdrawn, I will never speak to him again"

After the many claims that the attempted assassination of author Salman Rushdie was influenced by the Halacha ruling issued against him by the Revolutionary Guards, the Islamic Republic is responding.

"No one has the right to accuse the Islamic Republic of attacking Salman Rushdie," said a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanani.

"He and his supporters are solely responsible, not anyone else."

As I recall, in 1988 Rushdie published "Satan's Verses", a work from which an implicit criticism of the Prophet of Islam Muhammad emerged, which was received with astonishment and anger in the Muslim world and was even banned for distribution in the Islamic Republic of Iran and other Muslim countries.

Following this, the supreme leader at the time, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, issued a halachic ruling ordering Rushdi to be killed for what was perceived as blasphemy.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also referred to the writer in a tweet he published about three years ago in which he emphasized that the Halacha ruling is still in effect.

The assassin's mother: "I was told in a conversation that the FBI was in the house, I was shocked"

Silvana Pardos, the mother of the 24-year-old young man Khadi Matar who stabbed Rushdi, was interviewed on Friday by the British media and told many details about her son's character and the fact that he went to Lebanon in 2018 and returned from there "introverted".

"The first hour he got there he called me and told me he wanted to go back. He stayed for about 28 days but the trip didn't go well with his father, he felt very alone," Pardos (48) told the Daily Mail.

She also described that her son used to lock himself in the basement of the house and not talk to the family for months until he returned from a trip to the land of the cedars.

"I expected him to come back motivated, but instead he locked himself in the basement. He changed a lot, he didn't say anything to me or his sisters for months," she added.

Also, the mother said that she "can't tell much about his life after that because he isolated me since 2018. If I approached him sometimes he would say hello, sometimes he just ignored me and left. He sleeps during the day and wakes up and eats at night. He He lived in the basement and cooked his own food," she concluded.

As I recall, the family immigrated to the USA 25 years ago from the village of Yaroun, which is under the administrative responsibility of Bint Jbeil, near the Israeli border and a place that is a stronghold of Hezbollah.

After the attack against the British writer, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided Mater's house and thus Mrs. Pardos was exposed to the act committed by her son.

She detailed that the authorities confiscated a number of items, including: a computer, a Playstation console, books, knives and a sharpener.

"I got a call from my daughter, I was at work and she told me the FBI was at the house, I was shocked," she said.

"I have two other minors to take care of. They're upset, they're in shock. All we can do is try to move forward, without him. I've never heard of the author (Salman Rushdie) before. I've never read any of his books, no I knew such an author even existed. I didn't know my son had ever read his book,' she concluded.

At the same time, it became known that Matar had alleged connections with elements of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, according to the website Vice.

According to the report, which came from intelligence services in the Middle East and Europe, Mater has contact with the organization's representatives on social networks.

In the meantime, a noticeable improvement in Rushdie's health was registered in the last day after he was stabbed during a conference in New York and was hospitalized in critical condition.

As a result of the attack, the writer suffered a number of very serious injuries which, according to his agent, based on updates from the medical team, damaged the nerves in one of the arms, serious damage to the liver and will likely lose an eye.
