With a number of Syrian heritage songs, this evening the Ministry of Culture, the Directorate of Theaters and Music, inaugurated the first Syrian heritage song festival led by Maestro Nazih Asaad at Al-Azm Palace in Damascus.

The festival, which is revived by the Syrian Heritage Music Ensemble led by Maestro Asaad, extends for three days and comes after many experiences of concerts and festivals with different names, to be the most comprehensive in terms of quality and quantity.

The evening began with the presentation of four songs from the heritage of the green Idlib, which came with the voice of Elissar Jawad, and the sweet lyrical and musical hymns were completed from the heritage of Hama, with the voice of the northern Haya.

Marie Hospian presented a number of Armenian heritage songs, and Daoud Radwan concluded the evening by presenting songs from the heritage of Suwayda and Daraa.

Maestro Asaad explained in a statement to SANA that what distinguishes the festival is its inclusiveness and the allocation of traditional songs for each governorate while preserving the dialect and rituals of the city to which that song belongs, stressing that the songs are presented in a committed and authentic artistic style without compromising the nature of the melody and the word and on young sound waves interested in the ancient Syrian artistic heritage. .

Maestro Asaad explained that the method of selecting songs from each governorate came according to the desire of the singer performing them and the degree of their depth in the memory of the Syrian public and their closeness to the conscience of generations through the time distances that have been established in the minds.

For his part, the general supervisor of the festival, Idris Murad, indicated that the main goal of the festival is to work on correcting the course of the Syrian heritage song and preserving its originality and elegance after attempts to distort it under the pretext of presenting it in a contemporary way through young personalities.

Murad stated that these songs will be recorded and the recordings will be kept in the library of the Directorate of Theaters and Music to encourage young people to return to the traditional artistic path of the Syrian song and to consolidate artistic and cultural affiliation among the new generation.

The festival will continue on August 16 and 17 to cover the heritage of the rest of the Syrian governorates. Young voices from Homs and Aleppo will resound tomorrow, and be completed with the Kurdish and Euphrates heritage. On Wednesday, the audience will hear the coastal and Golani heritage and the heritage of Damascus until the curtain falls on the Mardali, Syriac and Assyrian heritage.
