These are the 10 baby names people regret the most, and the 10 they most often choose to replace them

The first two on the list respond to spelling errors. But there are also influences from travel and pop culture, and one in particular that falls in the US and triumphs in Mexico.

Choosing a name for a baby is not always easy.

Some moms regret it (like Kylie Jenner);

and others are wrong.

In the last five years, the two most changed names

retrospectively

are

Issac and Chole,

and the two most used as replacements are, unsurprisingly, Isaac and Chloe, according to an investigation by The Washington Post based on data from the Social Security Administration from January 2017 to March 2022.

The aforementioned medium spoke with a Californian named Chole Tuckness.

Her name came up four years ago at a summer camp, when a student misspelled her name in a play and couldn't get rid of the nickname anymore, she said.

She's actually called Chloe.

"That's a ridiculous name!"

, said the young woman, 22 years old, about that name, that she has not stopped persecuting her since then.

Sophia is not the first]

In the fall, a friend registered her to vote in California and misspelled her name: weeks later Chloe began receiving official mail addressed to a certain Chole, until she was able to file name correction papers with the county registrar.

Besides Issac and Chole, the most abandoned names are Aiden, Conner, Elliot, Michael, James, Isabella, Sophia and David.

And the most adopted names in substitution, in addition to Isaac and Chole, are Sebastian, William, Olivia, Michael, Elijah, Matthew, Connor and Jonathan.

Another trend is choosing travel-inspired names.

Thus, the popularity of some cities, states and countries grew by 14% from 2000 to 2020, according to a study by the Bounce app cited by CNBC.

Preston, Dakota and Israel

were some of the most popular for children;

and that

Sydney, Alexandria and London

for girls.

According to another investigation by The Washington Post, in the last five years there have been nearly 30,000 baby name changes.

In 2021, gender-neutral (Finley, Tatum) and those inspired by nature (Willow, Ivy, Sage) and pop culture gained popularity in the top 10 list

(Daphne, Chadwick).

And while in the United States Sophia ceased to be number one, in Mexico Sofía remained the most popular.
