Sunday evening, Météo France had recorded no orange alert (heat wave or storm) throughout the territory.

Already this Monday, the first bad weather is forecast in the Pyrenees, the south of the Alps and the Corsican mountains.

Showers are also expected during the afternoon between the Belgian border and Alsace.

A significant risk of flooding in Roussillon and the Cévennes

In the coming days, the weather will intensify.

Significant deterioration is expected from Tuesday between the south-west and the Massif Central, and will progress towards the Mediterranean.

“Towards Roussillon, the Cévennes, we expect significant accumulations of rain, locally more than 100 liters of water per m², on very dry and impermeable soils.

The risk of flooding promises to be significant in these Mediterranean regions, and these sometimes heavy stormy rains will continue for Wednesday in the South-East”, explained Marc Hay, weather journalist for BFMTV.

A Mediterranean episode is not to be excluded in Languedoc and in the Rhône Valley with "a risk of extremely rainy and virulent stationary storms", adds Météo Paris.

The departments of Hérault and Gard have already been subject to violent storms.

According to the Keraunos Twitter account, nearly 7,000 lightning strikes were detected in two hours for a total of 35,000 in 24 hours.

This makes this Sunday the stormiest day recorded since the end of June in France.

In the city of Montpellier, bad weather put an end to a long period of drought, not a drop of rain had fallen since mid-March.
