Kenya's Electoral Commission chief today announced that outgoing Vice President William Ruto has won the August 9 presidential election.
"Roto won 7.18 million votes, or 50.49 percent, compared to his rival, Raila Odinga, who received 6.94 million votes, or 48.85 percent," the head of the Independent Electoral and Border Commission, Wafula Shibukati, was quoted by AFP as saying in a statement.
Shortly before the announcement, four of the seven members of the electoral commission said they were not recognizing the results, which raised concerns about election fraud, which has been closely watched in the center of political and economic power in East Africa.
William Samui Ruto became Kenya's fifth president, succeeding Uhuru Kenyatta, who did not have the right to run for a third time after two terms since 2013.
