Gustavo Zlauvenen, head of the NPT Review Conference, predicted that Moscow and Washington would remain in 2026 without the Strategic Offensive Reduction Treaty if their relations continued as they are today.
According to the RIA Novosti news agency, Zlauvinen said in a statement today: “If the situation in which we are living continues today, where there are no high-level contacts between Moscow and Washington, then we may face such a situation, that is, the absence of a treaty,” expressing hope at the same time that this will not happen.
It is noteworthy that the START 3 Treaty is the only remaining system between the United States and Russia in the field of nuclear weapons control and was extended before a period of five years and expires in 2026.
