Ingilt Böhm writes: »After the death of my beloved cat, I visited the six-year-old tomcat Marlon at the Wetterau animal shelter in Rödgen.« And: »I fell in love with Marlon immediately.

I guess it's mutual, because Marlon comes to me as soon as I call him, he's already eating out of my hand."

She visited him at the animal shelter five times and was looking forward to being able to take him in soon.

“But after an animal shelter worker visited my home, she refused to let me have Marlon.

But that's precisely why, she says, "I don't understand why they don't want to give me Marlon."

Animal shelter Wetterau: "The conditions on site do not suit this animal."

According to the animal shelter, the non-mediation has nothing to do with Böhm and her home itself.

It's just down to the tomcat selected by Böhm: "The house is suitable for cats," says animal keeper Regina McGee, who was with Böhm for the preliminary inspection.

»But for Marlon, this explicitly shy cat, the area is not suitable.

There are houses everywhere to the left and right.”

It is also a playground where children play.

Marlon the cat, on the other hand, needs a quiet area "with the opportunity to retreat" - such as a forest or a meadow nearby.

With very shy cats, it is important that the environment is quiet.

Marlon is now slowly arriving at the animal shelter, also coming to the employees and accepting treats.

'That also means he's quite comfortable.

He is only in the room with one cat, they also have an outdoor enclosure.

The other cat is very people-oriented, so Marlon can learn something from that.«

Animal placement rejected - decision was made by the animal shelter team

Ultimately, says McGee, the decision for or against a mediation is always one that is made as a team.

In the case of Marlon, a joint decision was made against mediation.

The chairman of the association Tierheim Wetterau (supporting association of the district animal shelter in Rödgen), Heiko Färber, is behind the decision.

He says: “As an animal shelter, we have an obligation to the animals that we adopt.

We comply with this by trying as best we can to place the animals where it makes sense.« The decision is made by trained animal keepers.

With Marlon, it was a matter of consideration: "We saw the conditions on site and said: They don't suit this animal."

For Ingilt Böhm, however, the decision is incomprehensible.

For Marlon, she says, home would have been better than a room at an animal shelter.

After the cancellation, she looked elsewhere.

She recently got a cat from the cat house in Bad Nauheim.
