Damascus-SANA

In order to increase the success rate of endodontic dental treatment and reduce its costs, young Uday Al-Nayef, a fifth-year student at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Damascus, was able to develop two devices for vertical thermal condensation and thermal injection for the root canals.

Al-Nayef explained to the SANA Youth Bulletin that the vertical thermal condensing device can be manufactured locally with the possibility of maintenance within the clinic and its ability to disassemble and install easily and replace parts quickly and easily, which provides technical advantages to the user and ensures that the work sequence is not interrupted, all at a low cost and a savings rate of up to 70 percent over the similar imported device for him.

He also indicated that the device can be operated with available energy sources, including the power bank and the lithium battery, pointing to its many uses, most notably the softening of the duct filling materials and the kotaberca cutter and the activation of the perfusate after the pulp removal process to wash the channels and thermal lateral condensation in addition to thermal vertical condensation.

With regard to the root canal thermal injection device, Al-Nayef pointed out that upon completion of the first device, a root canal filling device is used, which injects any type of quota or even the remains of a previous quota, through which it is possible to control the viscosity of the material used by adjusting the temperature of the device unlike other devices. Previously, they usually used Cotta capsules and were intended only for them.

In turn, Dr. Ahmed Mustafa, supervisor of the applied aspects of the Department of Dental Medicine at Damascus University, confirmed that the economic siege on Syria has made it difficult to secure devices used in dental treatment, in addition to their high costs, noting that the vertical thermal condensation devices and thermal injection of the root canals developed by Dr. Al-Nayef gave results. Similar to its counterpart in the European markets at a lower cost if it is put on the market with the availability of spare parts on a permanent basis.

He explained that if endodontic treatment is performed academically, its success rate rises to 95 because of securing a three-dimensional seal within the lateral canals as well.

It is noteworthy that the two devices won the first prize in the Bright Inventor 2 competition in Damascus and ranked 14 out of 46 in the clinical poster competition in Syria and the Arab world.
