The small town of Bergen made it big for two days.

A small festival turned into a big party to celebrate the 1300th anniversary.

Bergen

- "We are a small village with 230 inhabitants, where everyone still knows each other and everyone helps everyone," said Gregor Schwaiger, who is a member of the festival committee and something like the walking village chronicle.

The members of the three clubs (cyclists, shooters, warriors) confirmed his words in the night from Saturday to Sunday.

First a long party was celebrated with a few hundred visitors and then the tent was rebuilt during the night.

The party bar came out and the tables for the festive Sunday came in.

After the service, only the manageable population showed up at the pageant.

Almost all of Bergen was part of the parade, so the waving audience was almost exclusively made up of road safety officers from the fire brigade.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

At the festive service in the church, Gregor Schwaiger showed with a short history lecture that 1300 years of Bergen and 1200 years of the Schutzkirche were being celebrated.

In 822 the tower church with the altar under the tower was built.

Village between Haag and Moosburg on Wanger Flur

The walls there were built 1.58 meters thick to offer people protection from enemy attacks.

In general, the local historian says, looking at many finds in Bergen soil, that this patch of earth has been inhabited for 4000, 6000 or maybe 8000 years.

And Schwaiger notes with a grin that “the Romans gave Bergen a wide berth on their way from Augsburg to Regensburg.

We were just like a Gallic village.”

The village feels like it lies between Haag and Moosburg, but belongs to the area municipality of Wang.

There are close connections especially with the neighboring town of Seedorf (municipality of Haag).

"There was always a crowd there," jokes Schwaiger, recalling the economy of the past.

The Bergen Cycling Club was also founded in Seedorf.

The Bergen anniversary festival turned out to be much larger than originally planned, but the village community did everything right.

And Wang's mayor Markus Stöber was also certain "that people loved living here an unbelievable 6,000 years ago and stuck together like they do today".

He agreed that the community would also contribute a few euros to beautification measures in the area.

This year, a meeting point for the villagers is to be created around the church and the clubhouse is to be made barrier-free.
