The European Championships in Munich bring crowds of spectators to the streets and sports facilities.

Tens of thousands experience the competitions here - and celebrate the summer.

Munich - Munich is experiencing a new summer fairy tale.

And it even feels a bit like the '72 Olympics.

The European Championships are on - and the whole city is over the moon.

Thousands cheer on cyclists from the side of the road, cheer on the table tennis and gymnastics and keep their fingers crossed for the climbers.

Crowds went to the Olympic Park at the weekend.

Since last week, high-performance sports and leisure activities have been merging here into an electrifying combination.

While the triathletes went on their first stage in the Olympic lake at the weekend, the visitors enjoyed the view of the events from the Olympic hill or strolled across the extensive area.

Here the distances between the sports facilities are short - much to the delight of the visitors.

Many sponsors have set up pavilions.

There are 22 exciting games - especially for the little visitors - on the entire adventure meadow, including trampolines, a balancing and climbing course and a program stage.

In the evenings, there are concerts and parties with free entry to the park.

Today it continues rocking there with the Beatsteaks, among other things.

One of the many highlights on Saturday: the Red Bull Skidivers parachutists

One of the many highlights on Saturday: the Red Bull Skidivers parachutists, who spectacularly jumped out of a helicopter, did their laps over the park and then landed precisely on the Olympic lake.

And in the city?

Sports competitions in front of historic buildings offered a unique experience.

The Königsplatz was bursting at the seams during the bouldering competitions.

And on Sunday afternoon, the area between the Siegestor and the finish line at Odeonsplatz was transformed into a cycling mile.

This week there is an extra portion of summer feeling in beach volleyball.

A touch of Copacabana in the middle of the city.

Best of all, it's far from over.

European Championships 2022 - that's what the people of Munich say:

Neil Munro (37) with son Felix (1) and Santa (37): "We live very close by and came here spontaneously.

We wanted to watch the BMX competitions.

That's the most interesting thing here.

But we're too early.

That's why we're just hanging out a bit in the Olympic Park, eating and drinking something."

Martina von Jena (42) with Josephin (8), Philipp (11) and Karl (46): “We only decided to come here yesterday.

The kids have been skating here today.

Now let's go to athletics.

Our kids are going to track and field camp next week.

Here you can already see where the journey is going.”

Lisa Fischer (32): "I'll look at the triathlon right away.

That will definitely be exciting.

Then it's off to the BMX competition on the Olympiaberg, I'm curious about that too.

My family is coming to visit next week.

We will definitely come back to the European Championships.”

Stefan Schwimmbeck (31): "I'm here to watch the athletes, for example at the regatta.

I think it's great that it's so easy to attend the competitions.

You can also use the other great offers in the Olympic Park in between.

Only the beer is a bit expensive at six euros.”
