Cologne News: Where Küppers and Dom Kölsch were once brewed, a comprehensive school will soon be located - as temporary accommodation for the European School.
Cologne – There is a shortage of secondary schools in Cologne.
For years there have been too few school places in Cologne for too many pupils.
Around 500 places were missing in the meantime.
The solution: schools in Cologne are to be rebuilt or expanded.
One of them: The European School on the Raderthal belt - and for which there should now be a special location for a while.
In a brewery, as reported by 24RHEIN.
Cologne: Ex-Dombrauerei is to become a replacement location for the European School
The reason: The comprehensive school in Zollstock (district of Cologne-Rodenkirchen) has to be completely renovated.
But in order for the conversion to be possible, the students at the school have to find alternative accommodation.
Now the right space has been found – in a former Kölsch brewery.
"The city of Cologne has now found a suitable alternative location to which the European school can be relocated while the construction work is being carried out," the city announced in mid-August.
The solution: the former cathedral brewery in Bayenthal.
"The area is on Alteburger Strasse in the Parkstadt Süd planning area and was the location of the Dombrauerei until spring 2005," explains the city of Cologne.

The brewery site is to become a school location – preparations are “intensive”
However, it could still be a while before the European School actually moves: "The area is currently being intensively examined for the project." to prepare a replacement site."
Because in order for the building to be an alternative location for the European School and for lessons to be able to take place, several conversion measures are necessary, it is said.
The city wants to coordinate this with the environment and consumer protection agency.
Discussions are currently taking place – also with the current users.
Europaschule: When will classes start in Cologne-Bayenthal?
“It will take at least two years to complete the construction at the replacement site on Alteburger Strasse.
A concrete schedule is still being worked out,” the city continues.
What is certain, however, is that the general refurbishment of the listed European School on the Raderthal belt should be completed by the end of 2027 in accordance with the council decision.
After that, school operations are to return to the location in Zollstock.
