A Corona case triggers a mass panic in an Ikea branch in China.

Customers are trying desperately to flee a forced quarantine.

Shanghai - Dramatic scenes apparently took place in an Ikea branch in Shanghai (China) on Saturday (13 August).

Videos are currently circulating on Twitter that want to document a mass panic in the Chinese city.

You can see it: people flock to the exits of the furniture store.

Meanwhile, Chinese security forces try to close the doors to the crowds.

People push against it with all their might, some manage to escape and flee.

China: Ikea customer probably had contact with corona infected people

The reason for this mass panic is said to have been a corona case, as reported by the

Handelsblatt

.

According to Chinese authorities, one of the customers had previously had close contact with a person infected with corona.

Therefore, "temporary control measures" were carried out there, the newspaper further quoted the authorities as saying.

The market in the Xuhui district was closed by order of the health authorities.

All people who were in the Ikea store at the time should have been in quarantine for two days due to the incident and then had to spend another five days under health surveillance.

This was announced by Zhao Dandan from the Shanghai Health Commission on Sunday (August 14) at a press conference.

Lockdown at Chinese Ikea leads to mass panic and escape attempts

However, the lockdown that was announced at short notice caused less obedience and much more panic from the customers of the Ikea store, as can be seen in the Twitter videos.

This is probably due, among other things, to the two-month lockdown in the spring, during which the government placed the entire Chinese metropolis under “house arrest”.

It is not uncommon for China to quarantine and seal off shops, districts or entire cities relatively quickly.

The measures are a consequence of the zero-Covid strategy that the country is driving.

This has already triggered several panicked escape attempts by Chinese citizens in the past.

In the USA, an Ikea now apparently even offers fashion.
